One bakery problem. One focused hour. Practical advice from someone who spent more than 20 years running a bakery.
Bring one specific bakery business challenge, decision or idea to a private 60-minute video call with TJ.
Maybe you know something in your business isn’t working, but you’re too close to it to see what needs to change. Maybe you’re considering a big decision and want to talk it through with someone who understands the realities of running a bakery. Or maybe you simply need an experienced outside perspective before deciding what to do next.
This is your opportunity to step away from the day-to-day work for an hour and focus on one issue that matters to your business.
WHAT COULD WE WORK ON?
Every bakery is different, so every session will be different.
You might book a session because:
You’re busy, but you’re not making enough money. We can look at your pricing, products, workload and where profit may be disappearing.
You think your prices are too low but don’t know what they should be. We can talk through how you currently price, what you may be overlooking and where to start making changes.
Your menu has become too complicated. We can identify products, flavours, sizes or options that may be creating more work than they’re worth.
Custom orders are taking over your business. We can look at what you’re allowing customers to customize, how much unpaid work those requests create and where stronger boundaries may help.
You’re overwhelmed and working too much. We can look for the work, exceptions, products or processes that are making your bakery harder to operate than it needs to be.
You think you need to hire someone. We can talk through whether you really need another employee—or whether something in the business should be simplified first.
You’re considering opening a storefront. We can talk about what a retail bakery actually adds beyond rent, including staffing, operating hours, inventory, production and the demands it places on the owner.
You want to grow but aren’t sure what growth should look like. More sales, employees or locations aren’t automatically better. We can talk about what you actually want the business to provide for you.
You’re starting a bakery and have too many decisions to make. We can help narrow your focus and identify what deserves your attention first.
You have a business decision you keep going back and forth on. Sometimes you don’t need another article, Facebook opinion or YouTube video. You need someone experienced to look at your particular situation with you.
You don’t need to fit neatly into one of these examples.
If there’s something about running your bakery that you keep thinking about, struggling with or putting off deciding, bring it to the session.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING YOUR SESSION?
This isn’t a generic presentation or a prepared lesson.
The entire hour is about your bakery.
Before we meet, you’ll complete a short questionnaire telling TJ about your business, what you’re struggling with and the one thing you’d most like clarity about.
TJ will review it before your call so you don’t have to spend the first 20 minutes explaining your business from scratch.
During your 60-minute private video session, you’ll:
- Talk through what’s actually happening—not just the problem as it appears on the surface.
- Look at the parts of your business that may be contributing to it.
- Question assumptions or habits that may no longer be serving the business.
- Explore realistic options based on your particular circumstances.
- Draw on TJ’s experience handling similar decisions and problems at Susie’s.
- Narrow down what deserves your attention now instead of leaving with another overwhelming list of things to do.
The goal isn’t to solve every problem in your bakery in an hour.
It’s to leave with greater clarity about the problem you came to discuss and a practical direction for what to do next.
ABOUT TJ
More than 20 years of bakery experience—not just business theory.
TJ Peach, MBA, owned and operated Susie’s Shortbreads for more than 20 years.
What began as a small specialty bakery grew from selling at local markets into a multi-location retail bakery with employees, custom orders, wholesale customers, corporate orders, online sales and thousands of customers.
Over those two decades, TJ dealt with many of the same decisions bakery owners face every day: setting prices, deciding what belonged on the menu, managing labour, hiring and training employees, handling custom orders, setting customer boundaries, increasing production, opening and operating retail locations, managing growth and deciding when not to grow.
She also learned that a bakery can have strong sales and loyal customers while still becoming unnecessarily difficult for the owner to operate.
TJ holds an MBA and combines that formal business education with more than two decades of hands-on experience actually running a bakery.
After choosing to close Susie’s retail bakery in 2026, she created The Business of Baking to share what she learned with other bakery owners—particularly the practical lessons that are difficult to learn from a textbook, spreadsheet or social media group.
These sessions aren’t about telling you there’s one right way to run a bakery. They’re about helping you build a business that works better for you.
